Parent Consultations

Parenting is a challenging job, even when our kids are considered traditional learners, but  juggling the need for educational and special educational resources is an added difficulty that can feel overwhelming. Luckily, you’re not in it alone. Whether your child is in a public or private school or homeschooled, Dr. Siekierski can help you understand complex Individualized Education Programs (IEP), find the right educational resources, and partner with you to create a plan that works for your child. When you need help with your child or adolescent’s educational development, a one-on-one consultation with a clinician can be really helpful.

What Happens During a Parent Consultation?

During your consultation visit, Dr. Siekierski asks that you bring information regarding any current or past educational resources, questions about your child’s educational plan, and be prepared to discuss specific concerns. The consultation appointment itself will be a discussion and planning session geared toward examining specific concerns and helping you to identify strategies for addressing these concerns. Strategies we may recommend to improve your child’s academic support system include utilizing different in-school resources or assisting in developing IEP documentation or requesting a 504 plan. We also offer educational screenings and evaluations to help parents and educators get a clearer perspective of the student’s specific educational support needs. You can learn more about these services on our Screenings & Evaluations page.

Dr. Siekierski can also provide recommendations for addressing a number of more specific concerns, including:

  • Behavior issues
  • Discipline problems
  • Poor academic performance
  • Social skills deficits
  • Tantrums and anger management
  • Sensory issues
  • Grief
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Attention concerns/ADHD

Why Should I Consider a Consultation?

A consultation visit is a great option for many parents to develop effective and efficient strategies of support for their children or adolescents to ensure academic success. Whether you’re new to special education resources or you just feel like the academic support your child receives has never been exactly right, a consultation may be beneficial. Dr. Siekierski applies years of knowledge and experience with child development as well as an objective perspective to your situation. This allows her to help parents understand and make the most of the educational resources available to their school-aged child.
